Equestrian paddock conversion, GB Groundworks
Giles from GB Groundworks converted a muddy, boggy paddock into a fantastic new stable area. Constant use by equestrian and pedestrian traffic, along with adverse weather, had turned the grassed area exceptionally muddy — even boggy in places.
The stable owners removed the previous grass layer and levelled the ground, ensuring the area was free from undulation or potential drainage issues such as clay. A geotextile membrane was installed, covered by a blinding layer of sand to let the grid bed into a soft medium and smooth out any lumps.
Black X-Grid panels came next, connected one by one using the interlocking slot-and-peg system and filled with soil and grass seed. The grass blade resists erosion and encourages drainage — the cellular design maintains natural drainage routes and helps prevent future build-up and flooding.
